I've written a few blogs about the Group Buying phenomena that has been growing at exponential rates as consumers flock to sites such as Groupon, LivingSocial and DealOn for deals in their area.
The power of group buying is undeniable. Consumers get deals and business owners, willing to give deep discounts, get much needed cash flow and a large volume of cash paying customers in the process. Best thing for the SMB’s is it costs nothing upfront.

JC Penney's, the nearly a century old household name, recently found out the hard way that Google does not like it when you try to manipulate their search rankings. Like many companies, JCP had outsourced their SEO work to a company listed in the article found below whom allegedly used black hat link building practices to get JCP ranked higher. This firm used tactics that were frowned upon by the search engine giant and therefore was given the dreaded "Google Slap", stripping their rankings from Page One down to Page never to see the light of day.
Google is paying attention and while you can fool them for a little while, they always catch up and when they find out you or your SEO firm was utilizing black hat or questionable SEO practices, you will find your website invisible in the organic rankings for years to come.
