Social Media Access On Mobile Devices Increase

Last updated 5 years ago

In the business world, social media is certainly growing at an exponential rate. With Facebook, Twitter and YouTube becoming more popular by the day, people are turning to mobile devices to keep updated while they are on the go. As the majority of social networks enjoy huge retention rates, users simply login on their internet compatible Smart phones, tablets or apps just to post a status while they are out.

Social media is a great way for people to connect with friends or family and for businesses to increase their exposure, so it’s no wonder that consumers worldwide access social media on their mobile devices more and more. Let’s take a look at some of the past and predicted future figures for social media consumption on mobile devices:

In 2010, it was estimated that 39 million U.S. users accessed a social network on their mobile handset, which grew to 58.4 million mobile networkers in 2011 and 77.7 million in 2012. It is estimated that by 2014, there will be almost 107 million social network users that login to their account using a mobile device. These figures alone tell you that mobile is on the up, year on year, which means you cannot ignore this advertising opportunity.

Not only will more and more people access social networks on mobile devices, but also the amount of mobile users that listen or download music and watch video content on their mobile devices is also on the increase. It’s predicted that by 2016, one third of the entire U.S. population will watch at least one video on their mobile phone, whereas only one fifth will do so this year.

It is highly important that you understand the actual growth of mobile device usage, as you will want to integrate a mobile marketing campaign into your standard internet marketing plan.  Whether you start one now, or in the future, is totally up to you but at least think about it. Ask your team questions such as, “Is our website fully mobile compatible”?  “Can we accept payments via mobile”? As time goes on, these questions will become far more significant to you, your company and your bottom line.

As more people become dependent on mobile phones, so will the companies that require brand growth.  If you’re not ready for this type of marketing then now is a good time to learn more about this opportunity in order to bring your company up to speed with the ever changing world of mobile technology. Ensure you are ready or your competitors will speed ahead, leaving you in the dust!
