Are you or your business on Google+? As of late September 2011, Google opened its social media network to the world. At first, Google implemented an “invitation only” policy to promote exclusivity but after “open access” was launched, the Google+ user base skyrocketed to 15 million U.S. visitors.
Whereas the Google+ numbers have dramatically increased, Facebook still holds the number one position as the social media giant. Here’s something to keep in mind, though. Google+ was the only social media network to gain over 25 million users the fastest (in just a month); it took Facebook three years and Twitter 30 months (Angotti).
Paul Allen, a popular unofficial Google+ statistician, believes the rapid growth rate of Google+ is best explained by its existing dominate position online. Think about it. When your new customer says, “I heard about your business online,” then they typically say, “I googled,” right? It also seems that a Google user cannot avoid Google+ since everything is now integrated. How often do you see the +1 button when you do a search? Through his research and analysis, Paul Allen proposes Google+ has reached above 50 million users and each day the social network is acquiring two million new users.
