For those of you considering social media marketing for your business, I hope these stats bring your decision over the edge...
Pew Research Center’s Internet and American Life Project recently released a report on social networking usage. Take a look:
You will notice in 2005, only 8% of online adults used social networking sites.
1) 65% of adult Internet users use social networking sites like Facebook and LinkedIn.
2) On a typical day, 43% of adults use social networking sites.
The age breakdown:
* 18 to 29 year olds - 83% use social networking sites
* 30 to 49 year olds - 70%
* 50 to 64 year olds - 51%
* For 65+ year olds - 33%
It is understandable that the younger demographic (18 to 49 year olds) is actively occupied on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, but it is interesting to see the rising curiosity of the Baby Boomers.
Are you convinced that social media marketing is necessary for your business? How many potential customers do you think you are missing out on right now?
